Happy Veteran's Day!
Hello, Wrimos!
I'm totally remiss in blogging during this year's NaNoWriMo. Suffice to say this school year has been the busiest ever for me. I teach seven classes daily, which leaves little time to blog, nevermind write! However, no excuses - I've found a way to write 10,000 words so far, so I'm still involved and still your fearless club sponsor!
Reminder: Don't forget to wear your club t-shirts tomorrow (Tuesday).
Meeting: 3:45p - 5:00p, Rm. 7.
Update: Make sure you add your word count to our class profile on the ywp.nanowrimo.org website.
Assignment: Read this blog by Amy Fellner Dominy about the NaNoWriMo process.
Weekly Journal
And now, here's a snippet of my NaNoNovel...
Call me right away, Carlie. Important!!!
I knew it. My mother cancelled. Again. I read the text message for the fifth time, then silenced my cellphone, and stuck it in the pocket of my uniform blazer. So much for promises to keep promises.
I watched the crowd of girls in plaid skirts and navy blazers gather for pictures on the front steps of my school - Brenham Preparatory Academy for Girls. They stood beside their parents, holding bouquets of spring flowers with pink ribbons, posing for pictures, smiling. And I stood across from them on the sidewalk, trying to suppress the familiar ache that rose from the pit of my stomach and stuck to the back of my throat like paste.

Hello, Novel Writing Club:
I must cancel our meeting tomorrow. So sorry! The flu bug that has been buzzing around my classroom for the past few weeks has finally bit me!
I'm so glad we were able to attend Rock the Drop - Phx on Saturday. I hope more of you can come with us next year. The folks at Gangplank generously donated the space and Sara Fujimura http://sarafujimura.com/ organized the event. Several authors presented such topics as characterization and brainstorming, and shared their wisdom and experience as published authors. We were especially thrilled to meet Amy Fellner Dominy and purchase more copies of OyMG. We will begin reading her book together at our next meeting (April 17th), which will provide a pleasant break from AIMS week!

I attended the Pitchapallooza yesterday and worked on my elevator pitch for my new book middle grade book.
Here it is...
Boys don't like girls who are too smart. That's all 15-year old Megan Thompson has heard since she decided to enter the Stockwell Computer Engineering Competition. PRINCESS GEEK is the story of a super-competitive, computer-savvy girl who must decide which is more important: winning the competition and a prestigious summer internship or putting on the ditz and glitz to win the attention and affections of hottie Michael Alexander, who also happens to be the competition. Will Megan roll up her lab coat sleeves and fight to win the internship or hide her intelligence for romance and a prom date with Michael?

Happy Valentine's Day, Everyone!
I finished reading OyMG by Amy Fellner Dominy. Loved it! Read it! I started reading Rose Sees Red by Cecil Castellucci tonight.
Sorry about cancelling the Novel Writing Club meeting. It was Valentine's Day, after all!
I entered the first three chapters of my newest novel The Computer Club into The Sandy Contest. I tried some new techniques and points-of-view (new for me, that is), so let's see what they think! I also entered the short story More into the MPS District VOICES Writing Contest.
See everyone next week! Same time, same place!

Reading a fabulous book by Amy Fellner Dominy. The story is about Ellie Taylor, an intelligent teenage girl who dreams of becoming a debater, and hopefully a lawyer. She attends a summer Christian speech and debate camp in the hopes of winning a scholarship to the upscale, renowned Benedict's High School. The problem: Ellie is Jewish. She must hide her religious beliefs to win the scholarship. Will she speak out about her true beliefs or continue to hide her true identity?
I've read up to page 112 of this book and I LOVE IT! Amy Fellner Dominy captures the voice and actions of the typical teenager and the angst that surrounds falling in love "with the enemy". I will continue to read this book with great interest.
Amy has also signed this copy of her book, which will be donated to our school (as soon as I'm finished reading it!!!!)
Reminder - Novel Writing Club meets this Tuesday, February 7th, same time, same place.
See ya' there!
