Hello, Everyone:
I've taken a break from my novel and decided to try my hand at poetry. Here it is, silly and goofy, but I was in that kind of mood...
EXCUSES
At half past eight, I turned to see,
a student walking toward me.
A somber face, he did express.
Tears filled his eyes, he heaved his chest.
“Oh, my!” he groaned, “I must confess!
My life – it’s such an awful mess!
My car – it’s in a mangled heap!
My neck – it hurts, I cannot sleep!
“My house caught fire late last night!
My neighbor’s cats began to fight!
My bird escaped across the street!
I ran but tripped upon my feet!
“My homework, which I did myself,
sits high, upon a wooden shelf.
Had I not plowed into a tree
I would have brought it here with me.
“And then,” at last, he sighed and said,
“What happened next? My dog – he’s dead!
He crossed the street to chase a cat
a garbage truck then squished him flat.”
I shook my head, “Enough!” I said,
“Your excuses spin ‘round my head!
An ache is starting to ensue
so here’s my strong advice for you!”
“Your lies - display creativity!
Your words - command authority!
Your voice - it quivers line by line!
Your eyes - they blink in rhythmic rhyme!
“So take this marvelous gift of yours
and sell it at the grocery stores
You’re barely passing with a “D”,
A buyer, I will never be!”
